An Afternoon Quickie Review

Aquapazza is a great game if you like retro 2-D fighters! The combo systems are nice and simple, but at the same time deep enough for veterans to do crazy combos. I also like the super moves they added into the game, because some of them had a tiny animation and they were fun to watch. The game’s story is a bit lacking though, since it follows the same formula as every cliché arcade fighter, everyone loses their memory and starts fighting over the weirdest things. It is also broken up into stages with a boss at the end. The Boss is actually an assist character and she just buffs up the character she is paired with. This doesn’t seem bad, but it makes it to be one of the toughest bosses I have ever played. Not only does the boss do massive amounts of damage, but after losing twice, the boss revives the partner with one health bar left. That took me by surprise the first time that I almost threw my controller after dying. Talking about assistant characters, they actually come in real handy. With 13 character and 13 assist characters to choose from, there happens to be a lot of variety. Each assist has several moves that is unique and also has emotions that reflect on how well you are doing, which in turn affects your character’s performance.  The music in the game is top notch and upbeat, which is expected of a fighter and the graphics are real smooth. The art has lots of bright colors and with more flashes with every strike; the game becomes even more visually appealing. Besides the story mode, there is also a secondary story mode where you can play more of a story based story after beating the arcade mode with that character, a score attack mission mode, and a training mode. There is a ranked online mode also, which is good because multiplayer is the best part of this game. With challenging opponents to fight against, there is always a reason to sharpen your skills.

This game is a great buy for a fighter fans and with the price tag only at 30 dollars, you would be crazy not to pick up this unique and colorful game.

SCORE: 7.2/10
